Our Beginnings

ABOUT FOSS

In 2016, Falkirk’s Council of Voluntary Services invited local groups to get involved in welcoming Syrian families who were arriving in the area. As a result of that meeting, individuals from several groups and churches came together and began an informal befriending project, finally becoming a registered charity in 2020.

While initially inspired by the extraordinary work of Stirling’s Forth Valley Welcome, FOSS has a slightly different emphasis in that we work with all newcomers, not just refugees.

Moving to a new place is challenging for everyone…we know because the majority of FOSS Trustees were once newcomers here! We want to make it a little easier by providing an initial network for all new arrivals in need of support. Not only can we help with English conversation practice – we can also give you insider tips to this lovely part of Scotland.

Welcome to Falkirk district!
